Card games have been humankind’s best friend for millennia. Countless games have been created and forgotten, lost in the sands of time and space unless their popularity kept them alive through all these years. But one card game that emerged from Southern India threatens to claim timeless prominence. It is swift, straightforward and very engrossing, similar but more engaging than baccarat. Please welcome EnergyCasino’s newest addition to the online card game family, Andar Bahar!

Before having a look at how to play Andar Bahar, make sure that you don’t confuse this game with Katti! Although similar, the two games are slightly different. For the purpose of this post, we’ll be having a look at what Andar Bahar entails.

In order to win in Andar Bahar, you won’t need to rely on skill or any specific strategy. Just like baccarat, all you have to do is place a bet — the rest is taken care of by the dealer. At the beginning of the game round, the dealer will draw one card. This will be classified as the joker, and your goal is to predict on which of the two sides it will appear again, either Andar or Bahar.

Once the dealer has drawn the joker, players will place a bet on either of the two sides — apart from any of the side bets that we’ll mention later on. After that, the dealer will begin distributing cards to Andar and Bahar in an alternate manner until one of the sides is dealt the joker. If the joker appears on the side you’ve bet on, congratulations, you win! Andar will be dealt the card first, which means that this side has a marginally better chance of winning than Bahar does.

The theoretical RTP (Return to Player) in Andar Bahar is 97.84% if you successfully bet on Andar and 97.01% if you do the same for Bahar. This places the house edge at just 2.15%. This is quite a respectable percentage compared to other table games like American roulette, which has a house edge of 5.25%.

The game must have an uncanny resemblance to baccarat by now, right? Well, it’s time to unpack some different side bets that you can place on Andar Bahar to book a front-row seat to the action.

Seeing how so many cards could be drawn prior to stumbling on the joker, Andar Bahar features many side bets with varying payouts. The highest of which is offered by the Straight Flush side bet in Andar Bahar by Pragmatic Play, which hopes for at least three cards of the same suit to appear in numerical order. Should you bet on Straight Flush and win, you’ll be paid out a whopping 120x your wager. Other side bets include Straight and Flush, which function the same as their respective poker hands. The payouts for these bets are 8:1 and 5:1 respectively.

You could also bet on the number of cards that will be drawn prior to the appearance of the joker. There are eight options for this side bet: one to five cards, six to 10, 11 to 15, 16 to 25, 26 to 30, 31 to 35, 36 to 40 and 41 to 49. The payouts for this side bet increment in size the higher the number of cards you bet on. Remember, just because it sometimes takes the joker countless cards to appear, doesn’t mean that it will follow the same pattern in future game rounds.
