Adopting a roulette system can be pretty daunting. However, the paroli strategy can bear fruit.
Do you want to know how to get the most out of the paroli betting system? This guide will give you the lowdown and rummage through the maths to give you more chance of enjoying success at the roulette table.
WHAT IS THE PAROLI SYSTEM IN ROULETTE?
The beauty of playing roulette is that you can choose a system that works for you. But what is the paroli roulette system? Deemed to be the opposite of the martingale system, the paroli system derives from the word “par”, where the Latin translation is the “one that is equal”.
With its roots dating back to the 16th Century, the paroli allows players to increase the size of their bets after a win, and decrease the next bet after a loss. As such, there is plenty of profit potential when using this system in roulette, and you can avoid the risk of substantial losses. So, if you hit a winning round with this positive progression system, then you can double your stake and continue when you land consecutive wins.
It is a much more palatable prospect than the martingale system, whereby you will see the stakes doubling after you lose. If you embrace the martingale strategy, you will need to be prepared to lessen the staked amount when you play roulette and increase it after a loss. Compared to the martingale system, the paroli betting system has much less risk attached.
CAN THE PAROLI SYSTEM BE USED IN OTHER CASINO GAMES?
Therefore, the paroli method can be particularly beneficial for all roulette players, whether they enjoy European roulette or American roulette, as even money bets can help take players to new heights with this betting system. The paroli betting system will therefore favour players who enjoy consistent winning streaks.
Using the paroli system is very versatile as it isn’t just restricted to roulette. Indeed, the paroli roulette system can be adapted to other popular casino games. It can be used on any other game where there are even odds bets. So, for example, you may find the paroli system useful if you decide to use this strategy for Pai Gow, sic bo, baccarat, or craps.
Whereas in blackjack for example, the initial bet will be based on the number of players at the table, and if you win, then you double your bet. A loss means the player keeps the wager amount, and as the dealer is placed in the middle of the bet, the cycle remains the same.
However, like with all other roulette systems, the paroli strategy doesn’t necessarily guarantee that gambling aficionados should expect lots of wins in the long run. Always keep at the forefront of your mind that by using the paroli method, you will have to stop increasing the size of your bets after three wins in a row.
HOW DOES THE PAROLI SYSTEM WORK IN ROULETTE?
Paroli roulette is an eminently popular roulette system, and the first thing you will need to decide is what your starting bet will be. Ideally, your initial bet should be a fixed stake, such as £1. If you lose, you will just place the same bet again. If you win a game, then you will leave your starting bet plus the win on your roulette layout for the next wager.
The starting bet can be of your choosing, however, to get the most from the paroli roulette system, the first bet should not exceed 5% of a player’s bankroll. Ideally, at online casinos, one bet should not exceed 2% of the sum that a player will have set aside for a roulette session.
As far as the roulette system goes, the paroli strategy is an uncomplicated system. So, if you have £200 to play with, then an initial stake of £5 would probably be correct here.
It is therefore best to decide when using the paroli betting strategy to work out precisely how many progressions you want to have.
As paroli is a positive progression system, the more progressions you risk, the more you will naturally win, but it can also make losing streaks hard to deal with. In essence, you could experience long losing streaks before you start to gain long term winnings.
Once you get your head around roulette systems, such as paroli, it is extremely simple to understand, and you can capitalise on all wheel spins, especially with outside bets.
EXAMPLE OF PAROLI SYSTEM IN ROULETTE
Let’s now take a closer look at how the paroli roulette system works in practice. While there may be a flat bet rule, if we set the base stake at £1, and if there is a losing spin, the bet remains at £1.
However, if there is a winning spin, you can double your bet to £2, whereas after three winning spins, the bet resets to £1.
TABLE OF PAROLI SYSTEM IN ROULETTE
To help you appreciate the importance of successful progressions with bets and the paroli roulette system, we have provided a table below to show you how you can gain consecutive wins, and the net profit you can make with this strategy.
Spin | Stake | Win | Lose | Profit |
---|---|---|---|---|
#1 | £1 | x | £1 | |
#2 | £2 | x | £2 | |
#3 | £4 | x | £4 | |
#4 | £1 | x | £-1 | |
#5 | £1 | x | £-1 | |
#6 | £1 | x | £1 | |
#7 | £2 | x | £2 | |
#8 | £4 | x | £-4 |
So, as our table shows, if a player is placing a bet on Red and Black, then this pays out at odds of even money (1/1). After three winning spins using this method, we will have secured a profit of £7.
The stakes in the game will then reset to the original bet of £1 per spin. Most players by this point will have had two losses followed by a couple of small wins at the roulette table.
We have also drawn up another table below to show you that you can still make large sums starting with a single unit for betting.
Spin | Bet (Units) | Pitcome | Total Profit |
---|---|---|---|
1 | 5 | WIN | 5 |
2 | 10 | WIN | 15 |
3 | 20 | LOSS | -5 |
4 | 5 | WIN | 0 |
5 | 10 | WIN | 10 |
6 | 20 | WIN | 30 |
7 | 5 | LOSS | 25 |
8 | 5 | WIN | 30 |
9 | 10 | WIN | 40 |
10 | 20 | WIN | 60 |
CAN YOU MODIFY THE PAROLI BETTING SYSTEM?
As we mentioned earlier in this guide, the paroli system isn’t as aggressive as other negative betting progressions that are found in systems such as martingale.
Although some players might be comfortable with a straightforward and low base bet, the double up rule means that players can double their wager, and apply this rule up to three times.
However, as you might expect, this carries more risk and there is a chance in the long run that you could embark on a losing streak that might be difficult to break.
Some players might be confident to take an all-out approach, but you should never double your bet simply to chase losses as this can lead to more money being squandered, rather it would be more prudent to set a loss limit for bets placed.
But while there is risk as suggested, some players might be guided by the idea that the doubling up approach at the casino can also contribute to consistent winnings, so this shouldn’t be ignored.
Of course, if you are one of those players that fears going on a losing streak, the method can be manipulated when using the paroli strategy. Depending on how confident you are with your bets and landing the perfect sequence, you might wish to implement a one-third or two-step paroli strategy at the casino to improve your chances of winning.
THE MATHS BEHIND PAROLI SYSTEM
As is the case with all roulette strategies, it is always best to scratch the surface and see what the numbers are saying and what the various mathematical probabilities are.
While there is plenty of profit potential, some players fail to grasp the house edge, and the chances of gaining wins on their following bets inevitably shrink.
At a basic level, the chances to win playing on one of the outside bets equates to 18/37 which is just shy of 50%.
If we work out the chances of winning four times in a row on the outside bets, it can be calculated as follows: 18/37 x 18/37 x 18/37 x18/37 which equals 0.056 or 5.6% which is quite low.
While the chance of securing three consecutive wins is hard enough, let alone four at a casino, the chances of generating a sixth win in succession diminishes further to around 1.5%.
PAROLI SYSTEM VARIANTS
The paroli system comes with two main variants — extended paroli and inverted paroli which we have explained below:
EXTENDED PAROLI
The emphasis here is more on the positive progression of the system as it outweighs any potential losses that are incurred. However, this will largely depend on the total amount you wish to bet.
With every win, you can double up the stake, while every loss retains the stake value. After three consecutive wins, the bettor should take a step back and impose table limits or risk losing money with future spins.
INVERTED PAROLI
Inverted paroli has a structure which resembles that of the martingale system. It tends to dwell more on the losses as opposed to any wins made from flat betting. A win will signify net profit, so there is no need to increase your wager size to gain more money.
PAROLI SYSTEM PROS
If you want to win money, then you can do so using paroli, and there are a few advantages associated with this strategy:
SIMPLE METHOD
Inherently, one of the main advantages of paroli is that it is very simple to understand. While you ought to know about house edge, you don’t need much time to learn the ins and outs. You don’t need to write everything down like you would for other systems such as Labouchere.
SMALL AMOUNT OF RISK
Another advantage stems from the fact that there is a relatively small amount of risk involved. You know where you stand after a losing bet, just as you do after embarking on a winning streak. Players can therefore make a small profit when they win over time.
SYSTEM MORE STABLE
As paroli is a positive progression model, it is easier for players to establish a loss limit, so they don’t sustain a long losing streak. Similarly, after big wins, they can revert to their initial base bet for further spins.
PAROLI SYSTEM CONS
However, paroli isn’t without its faults, and there are a few downsides to using this strategy to improve your odds of winning.
WINNING STREAK REQUIRED
Arguably needing a winning streak is the system’s biggest disadvantage. Sometimes, it simply isn’t possible to enjoy winning streaks on three or more spins.
Players may happen to win once or twice and make a profit, but if they lose their third bet, they will be forced to start over again. You are unlikely to walk away with life-changing winnings with this system.
ODDS AREN’T GREAT
There is little to suggest that the odds will swing in your favour. Ultimately, you are at the mercy of their wheel, and this will determine whether you can embark on winning streaks. So, the chance of losing with inside bets will invariably exceed the probability of winning.
This is the case with American roulette where the house has an even bigger advantage considering there is an additional double-zero pocket on the wheel.
SHOULD YOU USE THE PAROLI SYSTEM FOR ROULETTE?
In summary, the paroli system is easy to understand and master, and less daunting than other methods such as the martingale system. You can expect plenty of small losses as well as a few big winnings.
Perhaps if you prioritise making a profit, then paroli may not be for you. Nevertheless, it is a strategy that has plenty of potential, and it is worth trying.
